May is National Electric Safety Month. Throughout the entire month, people are educated in the steps that can be taken in order to reduce the number of electrically-related fires, fatalities, injuries, and property loss.
This year, the campaign theme is Electrical Safety for All Ages. Electrical failures are cause of more than 43,000 home fires, 438 deaths, 1,430 injuries and $1.47 billion dollars in property damage. The goal is to eliminate these tragedies from occurring. Certain populations experience risks that are significantly higher than others. Raising awareness about electrical hazards is the key to reducing home electrical fires, injuries, and death. Through education, the these numbers will reduce, one home, one school, and one workplace at a time.
