Safety Tip of the Week

Stay Hydrated and Maintain Energy Levels in the Cold

It’s easy to forget about hydration in cold weather, but dehydration can occur just as quickly as in the summer. The dry air and physical effort of working in heavy layers increase fluid loss. Drink water throughout the day, even if you don’t feel thirsty, and avoid over-relying on caffeinated drinks, which can contribute to dehydration. Eating high-energy snacks like nuts, dried fruit, or granola can also help maintain your energy levels during physically demanding tasks in the cold.
